Critiques of the Fibres Arts Students of Concordia

La Salamandre Art Center will be hosting the Fibres Arts Students of Concordia University and their teachers on March 30th and 31st for the "final critiques" of their projects they have been working on this semester.

Tessa Santoni, a Fibres Arts student, currently occupies a space at the Art Center to create her final project, an installation of wool and paper you will soon be able to discover.

Critiques' program:

On Monday March 30th - Papermaking critiques. This is a Fibres course usually taken by students in their third year of the program, also by upper level students from other areas (ex. printmaking, painting etc). In the class they learn the basics of making paper from western and Japanese fibres (which both have different processes involved) and they also cover book binding and papyrus techniques.

On Tuesday March 31st - Fibres Structures critiques. This is a combination of second year and third year students, working on our studio practice in Fibres. The class is very diverse, some come from a very strong weaving or basketry background for example, and others from a painting. The second year students have been experimenting with some new techniques this semester including looping, coiling, netting and warp-dyeing, and the third year have been both working towards their final projects and giving presentation about curatorial work.
